yes yes, i’ve been very lazy and not blogged on 40k imperial guard for ages, for you regular readers i’m really sorry, work, life and painting always seem to get in the way. hopefully this collection of photos of super cool imperial guard i’ve managed to collate from across the web will inspire and help you forgive me!

really cool imperial guard using parts from the catachan command squad box set, i love the beret. this was the mini that got me back into warhammer after a 4 year hiatus.

i love the background setting on this imperial guard krieg commander, check out the wooden pallet he’s standing on, its also fantastically well painted, thats talent!

really awesome dual scene between a regular cadian imperial guard and a tau fire warrior, i love the dynamic posing that akes this a real action shot.

this is fantastic, surfboards attached under the wing of a Valkyrie, wicked, reminds me of apocalypse now, where the air cav go surfing, definitely adds character to an imperial guard army.

really like these two characters, which are well suited to being commanders or special characters within an imperial guard army, i really hope we get more characters in imperial guard armies, i think they really help make an imperial guard army unique.

really well painted cadian standard bearer and walking wounded, check out the fantastic highlighting and crisp detal, really nicely done.

really cool idea and conversion for a imperial guard war correspondent servitor, check out the boom mic.

check out this awesome imperial guard saw gun conversion, the saw gun of course comes from gears of war, whats interesting also, is the combination of parts here, we have a gas masked head which looks like its been converted from one of the valkrie pilots, we have catachan arms and legs and cadian armor on the torso. the paint job however is a little lacking, but still decent enough to be a playing piece.

i believe this DKoK imperial guard commissar was a competition entry, the model itself is a forgeworld resin one, and one of the most detailed i’ve worked with, as you can see the detail on the mini is superb, the color scheme, shading and general painting technique on this mini is fantastic and well deserving of being a competition entry, the blending is fantastic.

death korps of krieg are one of the most detailed and finely sculpted on all games workshop warhammer 40k imperial guard models, they are made by forge world and are essentially ‘expert’ models not really designed for casual players. as such you usually find that warhammer 40k fan who own death korps of krieg minis are very experienced and tend to have a love of the modelling and paint side of the warhammer 40k hobby. here we have some of the most well painted death korps imperial guard models, mainly due to the unique read armor, now the thing about red is that its one of the most difficult colors to work with and as you can see here the read has really been worked and looks amazing.

really well painted and well based imperial guard cadian veteran, using parts from the forgeworld veterans conversion pack and the awesome cadian gasmask head from forgeworld, looking closely at the imperial guard cadian veteran i suspect a lot of ink wash was used, you can create great sensations of depth and detail simply by using ink washes.

check out this awesome green, thats what they’re called these pre-production minis. having tried my own hand at scuplting with greenstuff, and knowing that a professional sculptor friend of mine has tried using greenstuff, the detail in this is really amazing, especially when you consider that greenstuff is really really difficult to work with! you can even see the veins on the minis arms. I’m not sure where this is from but i suspect its hasslefree minis, if it is i’m definitely getting one.

check out this imperial guard krieg conversion, look at the old style german rocket launcher/anti-tank weapon, and the converted ammo case, also note the very, very impressive camo pattern, imagine the time it would take to convert an entire army of these imperial guard beauties!

very german WWII-esq imperial guard commissar and dog, check out the detail that makes all the difference, in the right hand is the dogs leash, if i remember correctly the dog was hand sculpted. the Imperial guard commissar is one of the older versions from games workshop, not sure if you can still get it.
